Introduce yourself.

What’s up Na, we’re a band called ZELOS (pr. “ZAY-LOSS"). Judah, Dan, and Abe Groveman form the core of the band along with drummer PJ Mullsteff and pianist Jermaine Walker.  We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our music with the 2008 Na Conference and we hope to meet you at our acoustic performance on Sunday night!

What’s the story behind your song “Steal Away”?

Originally, “Steal Away” was just supposed to be an average love song. But while I was writing I started thinking more closely about how the love of God in Christ beckons humanity with an overwhelmingly irresistible power and persuasiveness. The song then evolved into an attempt to capture God’s eternal pledge to individually and mercifully pursue sinners. His voice calls all humankind to surrender to His love. His selfless, sacrificial love brings eternal salvation, perfect security, and endless joy. We receive all this through Christ when all we really deserve is the wrath of God. Unmerited grace distributed freely at such an infinite cost epitomizes true love and will always overshadow any earthly reflection.

What are you trying to do with your music?

Music is a gift. We want to enjoy our gifts by using them to bring others joy. Music is also a uniquely universal language and extremely powerful platform for communicating truth in a disarming way.  Our ultimate desire is that the diligent pursuit of these two goals brings glory to God.
