dead theologians help again
Jan. 17 2008Okay, here are a couple more truths from an old dead theologian. Thomas Watson Continues the list I started yesterday.
3. “We aim at God’s glory with our life when we are CONTENT to be outshined by others in gifts and esteem so that his glory may be increased”.
(Ouch.)
4. “We aim at God’s glory by an honest and sincere confession of sin.”
I think Watson is brilliant on the topic of confessing sin. He helps us see that confession of sin reverses the curse that started in the garden. Adam believed Satan that he was like God and Adam fell. Through Confession we say we are not like God at all but are sinners in need of salvation. In our confession we deny the lie of the enemy and believe God and exalt him as God. We acknowledge that He is God and we are not. Confession of sin exalts God this way. Pretty cool huh?

Thanks Eric! Those quotes go along with this weeks sermon at my church. Perfect timing!

Eric,
Yeah - OUCH is right about the third point, especially for someone arrogant like me! I would love to hear your thoughts on these two questions you may be anticipating on that point:
1. In the context of the local church, when God raises up another Moses or Paul figure, how can (A) fruits of contentment in being a Moses or Timothy figure be cultivated and (B) fruits of pride be destroyed?
2. How about when you’re outside the church (i.e. school, work, bowling alleys, roller rinks)?
Thanks bro; congrats on another lil’n in the family!
Take care,
Brian
