Meet The ESV Study Bible
Sep. 12 2008Many people have heard of the upcoming ESV Study Bible, but we’re going to tell you about it again here too. That way you won’t be able to say we didn’t warn you.
The ESV Study Bible has pages of endorsements from guys we respect like John Piper, Al Mohler, Jerry Bridges, C.J. Mahaney, Mark Dever, Phil Ryken, Graem Goldsworthy, and on and on. It has contributors like Wayne Grudem and J.I. Packer. And it was project managed by one of our favorite guys--Justin Taylor. But all that isn’t why we’re excited about it.
Really, we’re excited about the ESV Study Bible for a really simple reason: We think it will help us read our Bibles better.
Having a good study Bible helps focus the words of God right in front of you instead of wondering which king was after which other king in the Old Testament (it will tell you!). A good study Bible helps point out connections between parts of the text you may have missed so that you can dig deeper. Its not a substitute for the Bible--it just helps get rid of some confusion and guesswork so that you read God’s words for everything they’re worth.
But don’t just listen to us. Check out all the free stuff from the ESV Study Bible you can get for free online:
_Read sample chapters from Jonah, Psalms, Revelation, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Ephesians, and Colossians.
_Read some of the dozens of articles in the ESV Study Bible like this one on Reading The Bible (with contributions by Packer, Ryken, Powlison, Piper, and Hughes) or this one on an Overview of the Bible: A Survey of the History of Salvation (by Vern Poythress).
_If you grew up on a picture Bible and you like your pictures in beautiful full color the ESV Study Bible has got you covered. Check out this sweet city plan of Ancient Rome.
And here’s a 5-minute video explaining the study Bible.
So check out the ESV Study Bible. If you want to get one, you can still save 20% by ordering it before Sept 15.

The promotion behind this thing is incredible! I am glad there will be another solid study Bible on the market, but I for one far prefer a reference Bible so I don’t get confused about what is inspired and what is not.
