New Voice: The Process of the Pardon
Aug. 11 2008Curtis Allen, aka “Voice”, has just released a new album that’s theologically deeper, lyrically smarter, and musically sweeter and we think you should check it out.
The Process of the Pardon is Voice’s third release and grew out of his experience as a student at the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. “On this album I wanted to have a clear theme and be much more theological”, says Voice. “I felt like on the first two projects I held back some lyrically, and theologically I wasn’t as prepared, but having gone through the Pastor’s College, I felt like I could add more depth.” The album contains songs built around the theme of humanity’s trial and God’s pardon--especially meaningful for Voice, who before becoming a Christian was involved in lifestyle of guns and drugs. “I’d say the first half of the album is more complicated lyrically and theologically and the second half is more what people are used to from Voice,” says Curt.
Here are seven reasons why we at Na like the album:
1) It’s humble orthodoxy rapped: same truth, new sound.
2) Curt interviews two of our favorite theologians: Wayne Grudem and Ligon Duncan (who we hear is a part-time rapper himself)
3) The beats are better. Curt’s raps are better.
4) The first half of the album is a mini concept album with humanity on trial and we’re suckers for concept albums. Or rap operas. Or whatever this is.
5) Fellow artists Evangel and Israel Felix make appearances on the album. So does Devon Kauflin--the guy who heads up the Na Band.
6) The album’s packed with no less than 20 sweet tracks. And its $10. (Hey, it matters when you’re a college student buying Ramen Noodles.)
7) You’ll learn about theological concepts like “Imago Dei” and “Visible Words” without realizing it (or feeling like Voice is compromising his music to get them in).
