Bobby & Toniette Giesbrecht. Na 08.
New Attitude 2008 was a turning point for our 6-month young marriage.
We both grew up going to church, and had been Christians for several years. During our engagement, I was been exposed to Reformed thinking and the doctrines of grace via blogs and podcasts. I was blown away by what I was learning, it was so different from the Christianity I was used to. I was hooked.
As I tried to share these revelations with my new husband, I found that he just wasn’t that interested. He was comfortable with where he was and didn’t care for doctrine or theology. In our town, the words “doctrine”, and “reformed” had become a bad word, and he wanted nothing to do with it.
I ached to be on the same page, to worship together, to be one spiritually. So I prayed. And coerced him into coming to New Attitude with me
God changed my husband’s heart. He has since become the spiritual head of our marriage, has picked up his Bible, and has started reading. He listens to podcasts and we discuss doctrinal stuff. He’s a different guy.
I wouldn’t say it was a ‘mountain top’ experience for either of us, as much as laying the frame work for the theological foundation of our marriage. Since Na, we have been listening to sermons as we wash dishes, or as he commutes to work. We’ve been reading together. We’ve found a gospel-centered church. Our time at New Attitude this year has become a defining moment in our marriage.
We are eagerly anticipating what God will do as we plan to bring our friends to New Attitude 2009!
