I became a Christian right around the end of 2006 and beginning of 2007. I had grown up in the church and had thought I was a Christian, but did not know Christ. Through a series of providential events, I ended up in Knoxville, Tennessee and got connected with Volunteers for Christ— an outreach of Cornerstone Church of Knoxville—and it was through VFC that I heard about New Attitude.
When I first came to Knoxville, I was looking for a church, but could not decide which one to join. Cornerstone was one of the choices, with the other being the church that I was going to off and on. I read this book someone recommended called “Stop Dating the Church” and I was convinced that I had to find a church and commit to it. Unfortunately for me, it wasn’t that easy and I had no idea which church God was calling me to. For nearly three months I was praying and pleading with God to make it clear to me which church he would have me to serve in. I would talk to tons of people to receive counsel, but never got anywhere.
I went to my first New Attitude conference in 2007 and it was at the conference that God made it clear to me where He wanted me. It was at the conference that I saw first-hand what the church really was about. I saw a collection of believers worshiping and praising God, all the while being filled with joy and delight. I saw God’s redeemed people loving and caring for each other and being friendly to all people, even total strangers. Throughout the conference I experienced genuine fellowship with the members of CCK and saw what they, as well as many others, were really passionate about The gospel was the main thing to these people and I knew then that God was calling me to have the gospel be the main focus of my life as well. God had answered my prayers and had visibly shown me what Church he wanted me to be with.
